It has been advised not to look at the past, but to look at what lies ahead. Some say the past is relevant only because it has shaped who you have become, but thats it. I disagree. There are moments of my past that I dont like to look back on.. moments that I have tried again and again to erase from my memory. Just as much as the people around me have shaped me to who I am today, but all of my experiences have done the same.Jason Powell's "Looking Into The Past" takes aged photographs from the Library of Congress and places them in their current location. The idea of comparing the past and the present is always interesting to see, especially through photography. It really is a neat way to blend together the yesteryear and today. The crude lighting makes the image more real and shows that Powell isnt out to get all of the details right, but to nail down the concept of looking back. It just goes to show that looking back on the past isnt always a bad thing. (Although I cant say thats true right now. I know I wont ever look back on today).
