Resume Bombing.

Im in the process of dropping resumes for companies I would want to work for this coming summer. So many sources are telling me that internships are most likely all unpaid (unless there is a formal program ie. finance, consulting, ibanking, etc). So.. I am bracing for a non-paid summer internship (which is killing me) and writing cover letters galore to all my favorite companies.

I searched for "GQ internship" and I came across several links with clippings of "EBay Auction winner pays $30200 for internship" and the like, and surely enough, a man paid $30200 to secure an internship position for his son.. along with a few perks.

The full article can be found here. I wish I had someone buy me an internship, especially one that includes "two passes to a signature GQ event, a makeover by GQ Style Correspondent Brett Fahlgren, $1000 worth of clothes from Kenneth Cole, a Tumi messenger bag and two tickets to the John Legend concert." But the best part of the deal was a 40-hour week at the marketing department for GQ.

The purchase wasnt for GQ's profit, though. Dont fret, "GQ's fundraiser, part of the magazine's 50th anniversary events, will donate to five charities, including the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, A Better Chance and Justice for Children International. Conde Nast Publications' GQ has five more online auctions planned for the effort although this is the only internship."

It seems several companies are also auctioning off internships or shadow positions. Most companies have reported that proceeds have gone to charities or schools to help fund educational programs.

/break.
Time to get back to dropping some more in hopes that someone will respond.
